Mitosis

PROPHASE  -

  • DNA coils up - forming chromosomes
  • Centrioles move to opposite ends of the cell
  • Nuclear membrane disappears / spindle starts to form.

METAPHASE -

  • Nuclear membrane has disappeared.
  • Chromosomes line up on the spindle.
  • Centromeres attach to microtubules.

ANAPHASE -

  • Centromeres split (divide)
  • Spindle microtubules pull the identical sister chromatids to opposite ends of the cell.

TELOPHASE -

  • Spindle tubules breakdown
  • Nuclear membrane re-forms
  • cell starts to divide (cytokinesis).

INTERPHASE -

  • DNA synthesis happens
  • Chromosomes are uncoiled
  • Nucleolus is visible
