Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum

• It isolates and transports newly synthesised proteins
• It gets the name “rough” from the look due to ribosomes attached on the ER
• It is a network of membranes inside the cell
• It has a large surface area to make lots of proteins
• There are more ER in areas where secreted enzymes are needed more rapidly like the digestive system.
