The Cell Plasma Membrane

Organelles

BRANCHING OUT. Glycoproteins perform myriad roles for cells. In this representation, the protein portions (brown) sit within a cell membrane and branching chains of simple sugars (green hexagons) extend into the space between cells.

·          The Plasma Membrane Structure is formed with two layers of Phospholipid enzymes.  This is approximately 7-10 NM thick.

·          In the Plasma membrane there are protease.  These proteins have pores that control what enters and exits the cell.

·          Each Phospholipid enzyme has a head that is “water loving” and a tail that is “water hating”

·          These Phospholipids are arranged tail to tail forming a bilayer

·          Also some of the proteins have Polysaccharide chains that are involved in cell recognition.
