The lysosome

• The lysosome is the digester of the Eukaryotic cell
• Contains a mixture of digestive enzymes called lytic enzymes and they are very acidic
• They are made by the endoplasmic recticulm and Golgi complex
• They supply enzymes that destroy old or surplus organelles, they also destroy whole cells and tissues
• They are small vesicles they often are dark, spherical bodies in the cytoplasm
